Great Britain 1998 penny

This new penny, or 1/100 of a pound, was introduced in 1971 as part of the Great Britain decimal reform. It had no equivalent in the sterling coinage but was worth about two pence ha'penny. It was converted to copper-plated steel in 1992. This type, issued 1998-2008, featured an updated bust of the queen. Collector proofs exist in silver, gold and platinum. It was recently revised to show king Charles III (KM 2430) but we don't know if it is being struck for circulation.

Recorded mintage: 739,770,000 plus 63,670 proofs.
