This specimen was lot 24033 in Heritage sale 61496 (Dallas, TX, April 2025), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XIV 1/2 Ecu 1704-V AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Troyes mint." Shown is a 1704-V demi-écu aux 8 L of the Troyes mint. Note traces of an undertype; this coin nearly always comes struck over an earlier half écu, Droulers[2] notes that all known specimens from this mint are overstruck. The bulk were struck 1704-05 but a few are known dated as late as 1709. Some of this type were struck using obverse dies leftover from the previous bust but this did not occur at this mint.

Recorded mintage: 220,170, all rf.

Specification: 13.72 g, 0.917 fine silver, 33-36 mm diameter, lettered edge, designed by N. Röettiers.
