The first specimen was lot 3000 in Goldberg sale 78 (Los Angeles, January 2014), where it sold for $212. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. ¼ Ecu with 8 L's, 1704-A. Struck over 1696 ¼ Ecu. Louis XIV. Reformation. Scarce. Fine to Very Fine." Shown is a quart d'écu aux 8 L (quarter écu with 8 L's) struck at the Paris mint in the last years of Louis XIV's reign. The type was struck 1704-05 in substantial numbers. There are also French tenth, half and one écus struck during this period with this design. This date is a scarce date despite the large reported mintage. All known specimens are struck over earlier coins. The earlier quart d'écu aux 8 L of 1690-93 (see 1691-B quart d'écu aux 8 L) featured a different reverse.

Recorded mintage: 1,536,028.

Specification: 6.86 g, 0.917 fine silver, reeded edge, 28-29 mm diameter, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 701, Dr/2 № 442, KM-352.1; Gad-161.
