This specimen was lot 31334 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XIV gold Louis d'Or 1690-K MS63 PCGS, Bordeaux mint. A seldom offered mint for this year, even more rare for its superb condition. This specimen showcases a bright canary-gold planchet and abundant satiny luster, drawing the viewer's eye for further appreciation of the sharp details (particularly so for this softly-struck issue). Housed in an old green label PCGS holder." This specimen is a louis d'or a l'écu, struck at the Bordeaux mint as part of a series of "reformations" that occurred during the 1690's and 1700's. The type was struck until 1693 and was superseded by the louis d'or aux 4 L, which was issued 1693-1700. The bust used at Bordeauz is enough different from the other mints that Droulers assigned it a special catalog number.

Recorded mintage: 30,819 fn + unknown rf.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, designed by J. Röettiers.

Catalog reference: Gad-250, Dr/4 № 407, KM 278.8.
