Sincona sale 69, lot 413

This specimen was lot 413 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,460 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH. Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Louis d'or à l'écu 1690 M, Toulouse. Réformation. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, gold louis of the shield of 1690, Toulouse mint, reformed. Very fine-extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1690-93 and is the first reasonably common type after the scarce dates of the 1670's and 1680's. Gadoury notes this mint as slightly scarce.

Recorded mintage: 2,400 fn + unknown rf[2].

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, designed by J. Röettiers. This specimen 6.73 g.
