Heritage sale 3096, lot 30167
H3096-30167r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30167 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $10,200. The catalog description[1] noted,

"France. Louis XIV gold Louis d'Or 1690-D MS64 NGC, Lyon mint. A superb representative of this scarce Lyon issue, well-rounded and aglow with soft mint luster, and hints of antique tone that pervade the recesses. Ex. Hess-Divo Auction 293 (October 2002, Lot 38). From the Paramount Collection."

While this is a fairly common date, Droulers assigns a separate catalogue number from the other mints as the details of the curls in the king's wig are different.

Recorded mintage: 410,380 fn + 351,200 rf.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, designed by J. Röettiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 405, KM 278.3, Fr-429, Gad-250.
