This specimen was lot 74692 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. 12 Mariengroschen 1764-IAP. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I. PCGS AU-53. Also valued as 1/3 Taler. Wildman design. Slate gray toning with a strong depiction of the famed 'Wildman'." This denomination was one half of a gulden or one-third of a thaler. The denomination was struck with the wild man reverse 1735-80. One-third thalers with the duke's bust on the obverse and a leaping stallion reverse were struck 1764-70 (KM 972).
