Künker sale 386, lot 5083

This specimen was lot 5083 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €120 (about US$155 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Karl I. 1735-1780. 2/3 Taler 1764, Braunschweig. Feine Patina, fast vorzüglich. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles I, 1735-80, two-third thaler of 1764, Brunswick mint. Fine patina, about extremely fine.)"

This was the first two-thirds thaler struck since 1740. It was made 1764-75 and 1779 and is common.

Specification: silver, this specimen 14.03 g, the weight of half a convention thaler.
