This specimen was lot 41309 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 12 Mariengroschen (1/3 Taler), 1765-IAP. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I. PCGS AU-58. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This denomination was one half of a gulden or one-third of a thaler. The denomination was struck with the wild man reverse 1735-80. One-third thalers with the duke's bust on the obverse and a leaping stallion reverse were struck 1764-70 (KM 972).
