This specimen was lot 5553 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Karl I. 1735-1780. 2/3 Taler (1/2 Konv.-Taler) 1765, Braunschweig. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 19, Osnabrück 1991, Nr. 851. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Charles I, 1735-80, two-thirds thaler of 1765, Brunswick mint. Scarce in this quality, choice example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The convention of 1753 which established the convention thaler also reduced the gulden from ⅔ thaler to half a thaler. Princes continued to mint gulden marked "⅔" as before but only half a thaler in metal. This type was struck 1764-75 and 1779. The denomination was retired in 1779 but the equivalent 24 mariengroschen continued until 1834.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
