This specimen was lot 30532 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Karl I gold Ducat 1738-B.I.D, AU58 NGC. Benefitting from a strong strike, the semi-mirrored reflectivity in the fields serves to attractively highlight the central design. Close inspection with a loupe reveals several wispy marks in the fields, but these blend rather impressively so as to not significantly deter the eye-appeal. A scarce type in any grade, this is often desired for the leaping horse on the reverse. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." The duke issued this ducat 1737-42; it is the most common ducat from this locale but still scarce.
