Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1738-IAB thaler Dav-2145
This specimen was lot 73524 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. Taler, 1738-IAB. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, EF Details. This Taler offers dove gray surfaces with generous champagne and the merest hints of plum toning. Some softness is noted in the Wild Man features and in limited areas of the reverse. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This thaler was struck 1735-50, 1755, 1758-53 and 1775 and is quite scarce but is more available than the accompanying thaler with the leaping stallion reverse (Dav-2146).
