from Künker sale 354, lot 5667

This specimen was lot 5667 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €460 (about US$640 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Ernst August, 1679-1698, seit 1662 Bischof von Osnabrück. 2/3 Taler 1692, Hannover. Vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 35, Osnabrück 1997, Nr. 1869. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, Ernest Augustus, 1679-98, bishop of Osnabrück since 1662, two-thirds thaler of 1692, Hannover mint. Extremely fine.)"

This particular "leaping stallion" gulden has stars instead of the usual mintmaster's initials and was struck 1690-92. Other gulden of the period featured the wild man or St. Andrew on the reverse.
