Jean Elsen sale 154, lot 1636

This specimen was lot 1636 in Jean Elsen sale 154 (Brussels, March 2023), where it sold for €240 (about US$311 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAINT EMPIRE, Marie-Thérèse (1740-1780), AR 30 Kreuzer, 1768 IC-SK, Vienne. D/ B. voilé à d., dans un losange. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée, dans un losange. Fines griffes. Superbe. (Austria, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, silver thirty kreuzer of 1768, Vienna mint. Obverse: veiled bust right, with a rhombus; reverse: crowned imperial eagle within a rhombus. Fine scratches, Extremely Fine.)"

This thirty kreuzer was struck for Maria Theresia 1765-70 and 1773, all at the Vienna mint. This example realized almost triple the catalog value. Thirty kreuzer was one-fourth of a convention thaler.
