Sincona sale 76, lot 1468

This specimen was lot 1468 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$304 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 20 Kreuzer 1771, Wien. Mit der Signatur IC-SK (Johann August von Cromberg, Münzmeister in Wien, und Sig. Klemmer, Wardein in Wien, 1765-1774). Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC UNC Details. Leicht gereinigt. (Austria, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, twenty kreuzer of 1771, Vienna mint. Extremely fine-uncirculated, Slightly cleaned.)"

This type was struck 1767-80 at Vienna for Maria Theresia and is common. Per the SCWC, it should bear the "A" mintmark for Vienna but this example does not. Twenty kreuzer were also struck for Joseph II (KM 2067.1 and KM 2067.2). Twenty kreuzer equalled one-sixth of a convention thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.68 g, 0.583 fine silver, this specimen 6.66 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1999, Herinek 852.
