Austria 1771-F AS thaler Dav-1164
This specimen was lot 1639 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €380 (about US$512 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Josef II. 1765-1790. Konv.-Taler 1771, F/A-S, Hall. Feine Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, convention thaler of 1771, Hall mint. Fine patina, about extremely fine.)"
On the death of Francis of Lorraine in 1765, his and Maria Theresia's son was crowned emperor Joseph II tho Maria Theresia remained the boss of Austria until her death in 1780. This type of 1765-77 is shown but not priced in the SCWC. It was minted at Hall, Carlsburg and Günzburg.
