Jean Elsen sale 124, lot 1268

This specimen was lot 1268 in Jean Elsen sale 124 (Brussels, March 2015), where it sold for €190 (about US$237 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAINT EMPIRE, Marie-Thérèse (1740-1780), AR Taler, 1774 IC-SK, Vienne. Droit: B. voilé et diad. à droite. Revers: Aigle impériale couronnée. Légères traces d'ajustage. Le droit nettoyé. Belle patine au revers. Très Beau/Superbe. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia (1740-80), silver thaler of 1774, Vienna mint. Obverse: veiled and diademed bust to right; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Light adjustment marks, obverse cleaned, nice toning on the reverse, very fine to extremely fine.)"

On the death of Francis of Lorraine in 1765, his and Maria Theresia's son was crowned emperor Joseph II tho Maria Theresia remained the boss until her death in 1780. This type of 1772-79 is common.
