Künker Auction 439, lot 2307

This specimen was lot 2307 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,600 (about US$4,953 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Joseph II., 1765-1790. Dukat 1774 A/CA, Wien. Die Münzmeistersignatur CA auf der Rückseite aus CK geändert. GOLD. RR Feine Kratzer, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung Kommerzialrat Dr. Herbert Wenzel, Wien. Erworben 1968 von Frank Sternberg, Zürich. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-80, ducat of 1774, Vienna mint, with the mintmaster's initials CA stamped over CK. Very rare, light hairlines, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type of 1768-80 was struck in Vienna (A), Kremnitz (B), Prague (C), Karlsburg (E), Hall (F) and Nagybanya (G), as it was a standard type throughout the Hapsburg empire. This date is not listed in the SCWC. This example realized five times the catalog value. Another Austrian ducat of 1774 (KM 1842/Fr-415) featured the bust of Maria Theresia.
