SB822-30276r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30276 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Ducat, 1773-A CK. Vienna Mint. Joseph II. PCGS AU-58. This enchanting specimen presents a near-prooflike appearance to the fields, with hardly any evidence of handling. For completeness, however, a few minor punches are observed in the upper left portion of the obverse legend, accounting for the subtle protrusions in the corresponding spots on the reverse. From the Augustana Collection." This type was struck 1768-80 at Vienna (shown here), Karlsburg, Prague, Hall, Graz and Günzburg. It is not rare but it is less common than the ducats struck after his mother's death (KM 1873).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-431; KM-1859 (prev. KM-2081).
