This specimen was lot 21580 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "TRANSYLVANIA. 2 Ducats, 1773/2-E H-G. Karlsburg Mint. Joseph II, joint reign with his mother Maria Theresa (1765-80). NGC MS-61. Considerable mint bloom remains in the fields and the designs are fully sharp. Ex: Princeps Collection." Like most double ducats, this type listed for 1768-77, is scarce. Altho Friedberg lists this under Hungary, we have followed the SCWC and filed it under Austria.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold, .221 troy oz AGW.
