This specimen was lot 42679 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "TRANSYLVANIA. 2 Ducats, 1774-E H G. Karlsburg Mint. Joseph II. NGC MS-61. The only example of the type in the NGC census, this exceptional Mint State stunner hails from a popular historical region--that of Transylvania--among the Carpathian Mountains and endless Gothic intrigue." Like most double ducats, this type listed for 1768-77, is scarce. Altho Friedberg lists this under Hungary, we have followed the SCWC and filed it under Austria.

Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold.
Catalog reference: Fr-191 (under Hungary); KM-1860 (under Austria).
