Künker sale 352, lot 1636

This specimen was lot 1636 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €6,000 (about US$8,350 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Josef II. 1765-1790. Dukat 1767, A/C-K, Wien. Kaiserdukat. GOLD. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Min. gewellt, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, ducat of 1767, Vienna mint. Scarce in this condition, slightly wavy, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck for Joseph II at Vienna 1765-80. Altho crowned German emperor on the death of Francis I, he did not rule alone until the death of Maria Theresia in 1780.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
