Künker sale 352, lot 1627

This specimen was lot 1627 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,650 (about US$2,296 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Dukat 1764, NB, Nagybánya. GOLD. Min. gewellt, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, ducat of 1764, Nagybánya mint. Slightly wavy, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck for the Hapsburgs 1741-65 and is fairly common. We will follow the SCWC and file this under Hungary altho it can also be considered Transylvanian. The auctioneers listed this under Austria. Maria Theresia ruled all three realms.

Recorded mintage: 31,000, fairly common.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.45 g.

Catalog reference: KM 334, Eypeltauer 254 a; Fr-181.
