Künker sale 264, lot 3462

This specimen was lot 3462 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,421 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Dukat 1763, Karlsburg. GOLD. Min. gewellt, sehr schön/sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Austria, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, ducat of 1763, Karlsburg mint. Slightly bent, very fine or better.)"

This ducat was struck for the redoubtable Maria Theresia 1746-65. A later type with a veiled bust (Fr-544) was minted 1765-80. Unlike the Empire, where Maria Theresia had to rule thru her husband Franz (and later her son Joseph), she was queen of Hungary outright.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.46 g.

Catalog reference: Eypeltauer 353; Fr-543, KM 610.
