Künker sale 294, lot 3428

The first specimen was lot 732 in Stack's Coin Galleries sale (New York, October 2010), where it sold for $345. The catalog description[1] noted,

"HUNGARY. Maria Theresa, 1740-1780. Ducat, 1765 KB. Kormoczbanya. Standing Queen with orb and scepter. Rv. Madonna and Child seated. Some circulation and marks. Very Fine."

The second specimen was lot 3428 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,483 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Dukat 1765, KB, Kremnitz. GOLD. Fast vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, ducat of 1765, Kremnitz mint. About extremely fine.)"

This ducat was minted without change 1746-65 in sufficient numbers to be considered common.

Recorded mintage: 80,000.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, the second specimen 3.48 g.
