Künker sale 264, lot 3466

This specimen was lot 3466 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,033 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Dukat 1767, HG, Karlsburg. GOLD. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Austria, maria Theresia, 1740-80, ducat of 1767, Karlsburg mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This ducat was struck for the redoubtable Maria Theresia 1765-80 and shows the veiled bust used after the death of Francis I. Unlike the Empire, where Maria Theresia had to rule thru her husband Franz (and later her son Joseph), she was queen of Hungary outright.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.46 g.

Catalog reference: Eypeltauer 383; Fr-544, KM 646.
