Künker sale 423, lot 199

This specimen was lot 199 in Künker Auction 423 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €13,000 (about US$18,408 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Joseph II., 1765-1790. Dukat 1768, F/A-S, Hall. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz, umgelegtem Mantel und der Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies, darunter die Münzstättensignatur F//Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Kopfscheinen und Schwert und Zepter in den Fängen, auf der Brust gekröntes, zweifeldiges Wappen (Lothringen-Toskana), umher die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies, zu den Seiten die geteilte Signatur A · - S · (Ludwig Aschpacher, Münzmeister in Hall 1765-1771 und Wardein Johann Joseph Stockner). Von größer Seltenheit. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Auktion UBS 51, Basel 2001, Nr. 1559. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, ducat of 1768, Hall mint. Obverse: armored, laureate and mantled bust with Order chain, mintmark below; reverse: crowned and nimbate double headed eagle with sword and scepter in its claws, supoorting the crowned impaled arms of Lorraine and Tuscany, order chain around, mintmasters initials below. Extremely rare, cabinet example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck at six mints 1768-80 altho Hall is listed for 1769, 1777 and 1780 only. The SCWC does not award any date a premium tho doubtless some, like this one, are very rare.
