Austria 1768-A 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 1650 in Jean Elsen sale 154 (Brussels, March 2023), where it sold for €7,500 (about US$9,711 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SAINT EMPIRE, Joseph II (1765-1790), AR demi-Taler, 1768 A, Vienne. D/ B. l., dr. et cuir. à d. R/ Aigle impériale éployée. De la plus haute rareté. Nettoyé. Fines griffes. Superbe. Le seul demi-Taler frappé pendant la corégence de Joseph II. (Austria, Joseph II, 1765-80, silver half thaler of 1768, Vienna mint. Obverse: laureate and armored bust to right; reverse: crowned imperial eagle displayed. Extremely rare, cleaned, fine scratches, Extremely Fine. This is the only half thaler struck while Joseph II was co-ruler.)"
