Künker sale 335, lot 4781

This specimen was lot 4781 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,178 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH. Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1772, IC-SK, Wien. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz/Stempelglanz. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, half convention thaler of 1772, Vienna mint. Cabinet piece, extremely fine to uncirculated)"

Half thalers were minted in considerable numbers throughout Maria Theresia's long reign (KM 1797, 1815, 1821, 1822, 1846, 1848, 1864, 1867). This counts as a one year type because of a difference in the design of the brooch on her shoulder.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 14.01 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1864, Eypeltauer 200 a.
