Künker sale 385, lot 3680

This specimen was lot 3680 in Künker sale 385 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,135 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Dukat 1762, Wien. GOLD. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich/vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Erworben 1995 bei der Firma M. Meister. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, ducat of 1762, Vienna mint. Outstanding example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

Ducats were struck in Austria in 1762 at Graz, Hall, Nagybanya and Vienna (shown here). Some have the bust of Francis I but this one shows Maria Theresia. This type was struck 1747-62 and 1765 and is fairly common.
