Austria 1762-GR 17 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 4085 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$120 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Franz I. 1745-1765 17 Kreuzer 1762. Graz. Vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis I, 1745-65, seventeen kreuzer of 1762, Graz mint. Extremely fine.)"
We don't know what prompted the issue of this denomination, which competed with contemporary ten, fifteen and twenty kreuzer, but various types were issued 1751-65 from Vienna, Prague, Nagybanya, Kremnitz, Karlsburg, Hall and Graz (shown here). The Graz issues are generally better. Seventeen kreuzer with the bust of Maria Theresia also exist from Vienna (KM 1782), Graz and Hall.
Recorded mintage: unknown but slightly better date.
Specification: 6.12 g, .542 fine silver, .106 troy oz ASW; this specimen is 6.07 g.
