Austria 1762 17 kreuzer KM-1782
This specimen was lot 4038 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780 17 Kreuzer 1762. Wien. Vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, seventeen kreuzer of 1762, Vienna mint. Extremely fine.)"
We don't know what prompted the issue of this denomination, which competed with contemporary ten, fifteen and twenty kreuzer, but various types were issued 1751-65 from Vienna, Prague, Nagybanya, Kremnitz, Karlsburg, Hall and Graz. The type with Maria Theresia on the obverse is known from Vienna (shown here), Graz (KM 1795) and Hall (KM 1796). They are not mintmarked but vary in the arms depicted on the eagle's breast on the reverse.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: 6.12 g, .542 fine silver, .106 troy oz ASW; this specimen is 6.08 g.
