Künker sale 385, lot 3681

This specimen was lot 3681 in Künker sale 385 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €36,000 (about US$46,519 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Dukat 1764, Prag. Münzmeister Paul Erdmann von Schwingerschuh. Brustbild r. mit Diadem, Schleier und umgelegtem Mantel//Gekrönter Doppeladler, auf der Brust gekröntes Wappen. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Vorzüglich. Erworben 1995 bei der Firma M. Meister. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, ducat of 1764, Prague mint. Obverse: diademed, veiled and mantled bust; reverse: crowned double headed eagle with crowned arms on its breast. Extremely rare, extremely fine.)"

Ducats were struck in Austria in 1764 at Graz, Hall, Nagybanya, Vienna and Prague (shown here). Some have the bust of Francis I but this one shows Maria Theresia. This type was struck 1747-65 and is fairly common.
