Hungary SA38-3496r.jpg

This specimen was lot 3496 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $119. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY: Maria Theresa, 1740-1780, AR 17 krajczar, 1764-KB, NGC graded AU53." We don't know what prompted the issue of this denomination, which competed with contemporary ten, fifteen and twenty kreuzer, but various types were issued 1751-65 from Vienna, Prague, Nagybanya, Kremnitz (shown here), Karlsburg, Hall and Graz. The issues of Nagybanya and Kremnitz show this Madonna reverse distinctive to Hungary. This date is common.

Recorded mintage: 1,178,000.

Specification: 6.12 g, 0.542 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-356.1.
