Sincona sale 34, lot 4348

This specimen was lot 4348 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$712 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Maria Theresia, 1740-1780 30 Kreuzer 1776. Wien. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, thirty kreuzer of 1776, Vienna mint. Very fine-extremely fine.)"

The SCWC does not list any thirty kreuzer pieces for Maria Theresia tho they were obviously struck. The design notes that it contains 1/48 of a mark (234 g) of silver or about 4.87 g. The coin itself weighs more as it is only billon. In Austria of the late eighteenth century, one thaler = 120 kreuzer, making this piece one quarter of a thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 9.30 g.

Catalog reference: Eypeltauer 234, KM unlisted, similar to KM 1835.
