Sincona sale 101, lot 3308

This specimen was lot 3308 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$271 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 1/2 Taler 1776, Hall. Mit dem Münzmeisterzeichen V.C. - .S. auf dem Revers. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, half thaler of 1776, Hall mint, with initials VCS on the reverse. Very Fine-Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck at Hall 1766-77 and is fairly common. Other half thalers were struck at Vienna (KM 1867, initials IC FA).

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.

Specification: 14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 13.90 g.
