Sincona sale 76, lot 1475

This specimen was lot 1475 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,642 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Joseph II. 1765-1790. Dukat 1776 A, Wien. Mit der Signatur CA (Johann Augustin Cronberg, Münzmeister in Wien). Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS63. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Austria, Joseph II, 1765-90, ducat of 1776, Vienna mint. Rare, especially in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

This type was struck for the emperor 1768-80 at Vienna (shown here), Karlsburg, Prague, Hall, Graz and Günzburg. It is not rare but it is less common than the ducats struck after his mother's death (KM 1873).
