Sincona sale 39, lot 4308

This specimen was lot 4308 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Salzburg, Erzbistum, Sigismund von Schrattenbach, 1753-1771 30 Kreuzer 1754. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, archbishopric of Salzburg, Sigismund von Schrattenbach, 1753-1771, thirty kreuzer of 1754. Very fine-extremely fine.)"

This type, equal to one quarter thaler, is listed for 1754 and 1760 only, with the 1754 being the more common. This is the only issue of this denomination recorded for the archbishopric in the eighteenth century, the archbishop preferring the twenty kreuzer (one-sixth thaler). Thirty kreuzer were minted extensively in Austria.
