Austria 1625 thaler Dav-3096
This specimen was lot 4732 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,752 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand II., 1592-1618-1637. Reichstaler 1625, St. Pölten. Mit Münzzeichen Rose (Martin Turba, Münzmeister in St. Pölten, 1625-1626). Von großer Seltenheit. Fast vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung Kommerzialrat Dr. Herbert Wenzel, Wien. Exemplar der Slg. Karl Hollschek, Sonder-Münzenauktion, Austria in Nummis, 1. Teil, Wien, Februar 1956, Nr. 709. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1618-37, thaler of 1625, thaler of 1625, St. Pölten mint, with rose mintmark. Extremely rare, about extremely fine.)"
This thaler from the St. Pölten is very scarce. This example has the obverse legend "FERDINANDVS II·D (✿) G· R· IM· S· A· G· H· B· REX:" whereas our very similar Dav-3094 has the obverse legend "FERDINANDVS:II:D (Ʌ) G· R: I: S: A: G: HV: BO: REX:"
