Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 1358

This specimen was lot 1358 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €170 (about US$230 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAINT EMPIRE, Ferdinand II (1619-1637), AR demi-Taler, 1625, Vienne. D/ B. l. et cuir. à d. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Her. 695. 14,20 g Rare. presque Très Beau. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1619-37, silver half thaler of 1625, Vienna mint. Obverse: laureate and armored bust right; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Rare, about Very Fine.)"

Half thalers were struck in Austria in 1625 at several mints, including Graz (KM 446), Vienna (KM 514, shown here), St.-Polten (KM 513) and Hall (KM 592.1). This half thaler was struck with this design 1624-36 and is common.
