Künker sale 423, lot 98

This specimen was lot 98 in Künker Auction 423 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$5,381 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Erzherzog Leopold V., 1619-1632. Reichstalerklippe 1624, Hall. Brustbild r. in geistlichem Ornat, zu den Seiten die geteilte Jahreszahl 16 - Z4//Gekröntes und verziertes, fünffeldiges Wappen (Ungarn, Böhmen / Österreich-Burgund, Alt-Österreich / Habsburg-Görz) mit Mittelschild (Tirol). Von größter Seltenheit. Nur wenige Exemplare bekannt. Henkelspur, Felder geglättet, sehr schön. Exemplar der Sammlung Erzherzog Sigismund von Österreich, Auktion Adolph Hess, Luzern 14.11.1933, Nr. 359. Erworben von Sigmund Werkner. (Holy Roman Empire, archduke Leopold V, 1619-32, klippe thaler of 1624, Hall mint. Obverse: bust right in bishop's robe, dividing the date; reverse: crowned five-fold arms of Hungary, Bohemia, Austria-Burgundy, old Austria and Gorizia with the escutcheon of Tyrol. Extremely rare. Only a few examples are known. Mount marks, smoothed fields, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1620-25 and is rare in klippe format.
