Bohemia 1623 thaler Dav-3143
This specimen was lot 74388 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOHEMIA. Taler, 1623. Kuttenberg Mint. Ferdinand II. PCGS EF-40." This type was struck 1623-37 at Kuttenberg (now Kutná Hora) and is common. Many varieties and mintmarks exist. Bohemian thalers for 1623 include Dav-3141/KM 356 (Joachimsthal), Dav-3136/KM 354 (Prague) and Dav-3143/KM 355 (Kuttenberg, shown here). By 1623, the Protestant revolt in Bohemia had been crushed and the Austrians were in complete domination. However, the Thirty Years War would grind on for another 25 years.
