Künker sale 353, lot 4132

This specimen was lot 4132 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €35 (about US$49 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm IV. 1840-1861. Ku.-3 Pfennig 1856, A. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Erworben im April 1967. Münztyp ab 1846 im Ring geprägt mit Perlkreisrand. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William IV, 1840-61, copper three pfennig of 1856, extremely fine to uncirculated. This type was introduced in 1846 with a ring of pearls.)"

This type of 1846-56 is slightly modified from the previous KM 449 of 1843-45. The last branch mint issue was in 1848. The denomination was struck until 1873.

Specification: 4.57 g, copper, 23.5 mm diameter, this specimen 4.54 g.
