This specimen was lot 23654 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,116.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Prussia. Friedrich Wilhelm IV 2 Taler 1855-A, MS64 NGC. Handsomely toned in golden-gray, there are few noteworthy surface marks and the strike is fantastic." This type was struck 1853-56. Despite being issued for only four years, it is fairly common. The denomination became obsolete in the reform of 1871.
