This specimen was lot 22371 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $141. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. 1/6 Taler, 1854-A. NGC MS-62. Sharply struck and lightly toned." The one-sixth thaler was one of many minor denominations struck alongside the better known thalers and gold coins. It was issued steadily 1809-68, when the unification of 1871 rendered it obsolete. Most dates are common but this type of 1853-56 is actually fairly scarce. This specimen realized one-seventh of the catalog value.
