Anhalt-Bernburg 1855-A 2 thaler Dav-503
This specimen was lot 1282 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 3,800 CHF (about US$4,560 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GERMANY, Anhalt-Bernburg, Herzogtum, Alexander Karl, 1834-1863. Doppeltaler 1855. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (Germany, duchy of Anhalt-Bernburg, Alexander Charles, 1834-63, double thaler of 1855. Uncirculated, Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"
This, the only double thaler from this locale, was struck 1840, 1845 and 1855 but is scarce. Anhalt-Bernburg passed to Anhalt-Dessau after the death of Alexander Carl in 1863.
