Künker sale 263, lot 1310

This specimen was lot 1310 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,163 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN-WEIMAR, HERZOGTUM, AB 1741 SACHSEN-WEIMAR-EISENACH, AB 1815 GROSSHERZOGTUM Carl Alexander, 1853-1901. Vereinsdoppeltaler 1855. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. (grand duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, Carl Alexander, 1853-1901, double union thaler of 1855. Handsome toning, extremely fine.)"

This is the only double thaler from this ruler. Similar single thalers (Dav-847) were struck 1858, 1866 and 1870.

Recorded mintage: 19,000.

Specification: 37.11 g, 0.900 fine silver.
