Prussia 1856-A groschen
This specimen was lot 4128 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €140 (about US$195 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm IV. 1840-1861. Silbergroschen 1856, A. Herrliche Patina, fast Stempelglanz. Erworben im November 1971. Der vorliegende Münztyp ab 1853 mit älterem Porträt. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William IV, 1840-61, silver groschen of 1856. Handsome patina, about uncirculated. Modified type with the older portrait.)"
This type was struck 1853-60 and all dates are common. The denomination was struck until 1873, two years after unification. The last branch mint issue was in 1848.
