Mexico 1889-Cn M 10 centavos

This specimen is a fairly common date of a series struck 1871-96 at the Culiacan mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. This specimen was lot 8927 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $218.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Culiacan. 10 Centavos, 1889-CnM. NGC MS-66."

Specification: 2.707 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, .078 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Recorded mintage: 42,000.
