Sincona sale 85, lot 2186

This specimen was lot 2186 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$505 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA, 50 Yuan 1993, Shanghai Mint. Panda. 5 Unzen Feinsilber. Polierte Platte, Im Etui mit Zertifikat, Choice Proof. In box with certificate."

The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. Fifty yuan commemoratives for 1993 include KM 79, KM 398 (shown here), 475, 479, 501, 502, 503, 504, 505, 506, 507, KM 512, 542, 543, KM 550, 565, 573, 579, 580, 581, 582, 591, 597 and KM A614.

Recorded mintage: 4,000.

Specification: 155.5 g, 0.999 fine silver, 5 troy oz ASW.
